Kaelonni z USA na stáži v Brně

06.08.2025

V první polovině roku 2025 jsme v GIC NORA přivítali stážistku Kaelonni z USA, která své studium v Brně na Fakultě sociálních studií spojila právě se stáží v naší organizaci.

Svou stáž shrnuje takto:

If you had to choose one experience that was the most crucial for you during your stay, what would it be and why?

One experience that I believe was the most crucial during my stay was the cultural moments. The Czech Republic and the United States are different in many ways, and I think seeing those differences firsthand gave me an eye-opening epiphany. People not making small talk, the bluntness in conversation, etc. Those small differences made my experience crucial because it showed me the cultural differences and how to adapt.

What did the internship bring you?

This internship brought me not only a drive to learn more about gender, but also new skills. I feel like I leveled up on my presentations!

What kind of gender topic attracted you most and why?

The gender topic that attracted me the most was toxic masculinity. Not just to how it is linked to environmental attitudes, but even in the overall topic. When I was researching for my incel influence presentation, I saw so many connections between the things we discussed and the real-life examples I was seeing. It is also nice to be acknowledged in something that seems to be on the rise here back home.

Why would you recommend an internship in Nora?

I would recommend an internship at NORA for many reasons. The work that I was doing mattered, even if it was as small as translating or making an Instagram post. You'll learn so much about gender, and how so many of our real-world issues are connected due to gender (toxic masculinity and environmental issues). It also gave me a drive to learn more (so much so, I am trying to have Women's Gender Studies as another minor for me before I graduate).
